Lucille George Wout sworn in as governor today

THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD – Lucille Andrea George-Wout is the first female governor of the island as per today. Today she has been sworn in by the King of the Dutch Kingdom, Hiss Majesty King Willem Alexander. In mid-November, her governorship will be confirmed in a public meeting of the Parliament of Curacao.
 
George-Wout officially replaces former Governor Fritz Goedgedrag, who resigned last year. Goedgedrag was replaced by Acting Governor Mrs. Adele van der Pluijm-Vrede.
 
Lucille George-Wout was the first female president of the Parliament of the Netherlands Antilles. She is characterized as the ‘iron lady’ of Curacao for her strong character and no nonsense attitude.
