DCLP TOP 10 LAW FIRMS SURINAME 2015

With the expansion of Dutch Caribbean Legal Portal with news and information regarding Suriname, an annual Top 10 of the largest law firms in Suriname has been added to the existing rankings of the largest law firms in the Dutch Caribbean.

The Top 10 of the year 2014 shows that Lim A Po is the largest law firm of Suriname, with nine lawyers. The firm consists of three partners, six associates and a legal assistant

The Top 10 shows stability; although the number of lawyers per firm has become more equal in the past years, there is only one new firm that was able to enter the Top 10 (Dayenne Peterhof).

Suriname currently comprises 190 registered attorneys, of which 49 are working at the firms in the Top 10. Tax lawyers and notarial lawyers are not included in this overview.

Law firms Lim A Po (Band 1), Essed & Sohansingh and Advocatenkantoor Hooplot (Band 2), and Advocatenkantoor Kraag (Band 3) were also awarded with a quality ranking by the leading international legal publisher Chambers & Partners. These firms all have at least one individually ranked lawyer as well.

Individual lawyers that do not work at one of these ranked firms, but are ranked individually by Chambers & Partners, are Edward Naarendorp of Coster Advocaten, Alvin Baarh and Dennis Chocolaad.

Besides these law firms, legal consultancy firm Theunissen & Harmsma is also located in Suriname. This firm mainly focuses on financial and banking law.
