Tax treaty Aruba with Canada

ORANJESTAD — The Internal Revenue Service of Aruba reached an agreement with Canada on a tax treaty between both countries. At the end of May, the Internal Revenue Service SIAD welcomed a delegation from Canada to discuss this so-called Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA).

Grey skies in the Caribbean

The seas round the Cayman Islands may be blue, the sand white and the coral reefs a rainbow, but to the OECD, an economic group of rich countries, the Cayman Islands are grey. On May 14th the OECD ruled to keep the British colony on its list of unco-operative tax havens.

7-Eleven vs. 7-Alive

In its decision of 8 May 2009 the Supreme Court of The Netherlands (“Hoge Raad”) in The Hague largely dismissed the conclusion of the Advocate-General and reversed the appeal decision of the Court of Appeals of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba in proceedings on the merits started by 7-Eleven, Inc. against a local convenience store in St. Maarten that is using a logo similar to its famous 7-Eleven logo (see photos).

No infringement of exclusive rights roadmap

Kris Kras Publishing may continue the distribution of the Smart D®iving Road Map on the island. That is what the Common Court of Justice decided Tuesday in appeal. The court deemed the road map not to be a ‘slavish imitation’ of the product that competitor Caribbean Cartographics distributes.

Results 2008 of Dutch Law firms

The trading results of the "Big Four" , De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, Houthoff Buruma, Loyens & Loeff en NautaDutilh, have recently been made public. How were the results of autumn and winter 2008? Very diverse. The results can be called positive, but do show the beginning of a decline for 2009.

Trade, education, and customs: Treaties with Jamaica

Eric de Brabander meets Erich Zielinski

Curacao Legal Portal zal vanaf heden een serie interviews met bekende advocaten van de Nederlandse Antillen publiceren. Het eerste interview in deze serie is met Erich Zielinski.

Erich Zielinski, geboren op Bonaire, is sedert enkele decennia als advocaat op Curacao gevestigd en onder meer een van de oprichters van de Orde van Advocaten. Recentelijk heeft hij eveneens naam gemaakt als schrijver van literaire romans die zich veelal afspelen op de Antillen.

Curacao Legal Portal heeft de bekende Curaçaose tandarts Eric de Brabander bereid gevonden het interview met Erich Zielinski af te nemen.
