On-call lawyers St. Maarten terminate strike

PHILIPSBURG--On-call lawyers terminated their strike on Monday. Spokesperson for the striking pro-bono lawyers, attorney-at-law Geert Hatzmann, issued a terse statement on Monday in which he indicated that all his striking colleagues had received payment and that the strike was terminated immediately.

Coast Guard arrests more illegal immigrants in 2016

THE HAGUE--The Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard apprehended more illegal immigrants in 2016. In total 122 persons were arrested, of whom 36 near St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba.

Stern warning for Statia Government

Government St. Maarten gets CFT approval to take NAf. 30 million in loans

Cyber-security specialist weighs in on cyber threats

PHILIPSBURG--“The dangers of cyber threats in the Caribbean continue to evolve and spike at a rate never seen before. As the telecom providers in the Caribbean seek opportunities to increase their revenues through increased Internet penetration across the region, risks mushroom,” said Deon Olton, a cyber-security expert at the Caribbean Cyber Security Centre, in a statement on Tuesday.
