World Bank: Caribbean currencies absorbing world financial shocks

WASHINGTON, DC--The World Bank says that for the first time currencies in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) are absorbing some of the shocks derived from a "less friendly" global environment.
According to the latest report by the World Bank's Chief Economist in the office for Latin America and the Caribbean, depreciated currencies not only lower the cost of exports but also raise the cost of imports, making the export and local industries more competitive and boosting job creation.

Central Bank statutes on one per cent fee will be adjusted

PHILIPSBURG -- Adjustments need to be made to the statutes of the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten to change the structure of the one per cent foreign exchange licence tax (commonly called a fee) for the countries to conform with Article 53 of the Overseas Countries and Territories LGO Decree to which they are signatories.

The report, to be released on Monday, is from Interbrand, a corporate identity and brand consulting company owned by the Omnicom Group that has been compiling what it calls the Best Global Brands report since 2000.
