VBC pleased with Final RTC

Of course, the Association Business Community Curaçao (VBC) could not fail to notice that during the Final Round Table Conference in The Hague this week, one agreed that the National Law to amend the Charter in connection with the dismantlement of the Netherlands Antilles becomes effective on October 10th next.

On that basis, the association concludes that ’10-10-’10 is a fact’ and congratulates Curaçao accordingly.

“After years of discussions, deliberations and negotiations, in which the emotions ran high sometimes, and that all of this cost substantial energy, there will finally be an end to the political re-structuring process of the Netherlands Antilles”, the VBC observes. “Simultaneously, this is the beginning of a new age in which the further development and advancement of the new country Curaçao is at the centre.”
In line with what the Dutch Minister-President as Chairman of the First RTC promised in 2005, the country Curaçao will start with a clean financial economical slate on 10-10-’10, the VBC observes. “Thanks to the debt reconstruction, there is a balanced budget and the national debt decreased substantially. The position of the economy compares favorably with the region, the unemployment has decreased, and the inflation is low, while the foreign currency reserves and the import covering are at record level.”

According to the association, the basis laid in this manner offers ‘room and perspective to realize further improvement of the prosperity and welfare’. In this, it is of crucial importance that an inspiring, positive, consistent, reliable and incorruptible (political) leadership supports and supervises this process. It is up to the new administrators to actually realize ‘progreso, prosperidat i bienestar pa tur’ (progress, prosperity and welfare for everyone). Only then can one speak of a ‘dushi Kòrsou’.”
