New governments Curaçao and Sint Maarten

WILLEMSTAD/PHILIPSBURG - The new countries within the Kingdom, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, both have their own government, their own parliament and their own Governor.

The official installation took place sunday morning.


This is a consequence of the elimination of the Netherlands Antilles on 10 October 2010. The Governor of Curaçao, Frits Goedgedrag, Governor of the Netherlands Antilles until Saturday. On Sint Maarten former airport-President Eugene Holiday has been appointed Governor.

Curaçao has a new governement under the guidance of Gerrit Schotte, who leads a coalition of MFK, Pueblo Soberano and MAN. Sint Maarten has a coalition of UP Party and the DP led by Sarah Wescot-Williams.

DUTCH CARIBBEAN - The Dutch Caribbean islands Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao will require Venezuelans to obtain a visa to visit. This was stated by the government on Wednesday, adding to the nations that have tightened entry restrictions on the crisis-hit country because of mass emigration.
