Tripartite justice meeting in Aruba

Minister of Justice Magali Jacoba is attending a meeting of the Justice Tripartite Committee on Aruba today.

Combating human smuggling and human trafficking as well as illegal immigration are among the items the Justice Tripartite Committee will discuss.

Meetings of the Justice Tripartite Committee are usually attended by the Justice Ministers of Aruba, the Netherlands and the Netherlands Antilles, but in view of the current dismantling of the Netherlands Antilles and pending attainment of separate status by Curaçao and St. Maarten, representatives of the two island territories have been invited to attend as members of the Netherlands Antilles delegation.

Dutch Justice, Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin, Netherlands Antilles Justice Minister Magali Jacoba, Curaçao's Constitutional Affairs Commissioner Zita Jesus-Leito, Leader of Government and Constitutional Affairs Commissioner William Marlin of St. Maarten and Aruba's Justice Minister Arthur Dowers will attend today's meeting.

The Antillean delegation, including advisors, held preparatory talks last night.

Also on today's agenda is the strengthening of the federal (Landsrecherche) detectives of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. Parties will take an inventory of the current situation as it relates to the execution of the plan to improve and strengthen the cooperation between the federal detective teams of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.

On the issue of combating human trafficking and human smuggling and illegal immigration, parties will discuss the status of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in January 2009 by the Dutch, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.

Ballin will make a presentation on, amongst other things, the Dutch security services.

The revision of the Netherlands Antilles and the Aruban penal codes is also on the agenda for discussion. The 2010 year plan of the Kingdom Detective Cooperation Team RST is also logged for discussion.
