Inter-American Court holds Colombia responsible for failure to protect photographer

Life-sentences demanded for two main suspects in Vesuvius case

BELAIR--The two-week hearing of the Vesuvius case, the largest criminal investigation ever carried out in St. Maarten, continued Thursday with the Prosecutor's Office closing speech. Prosecutors Gonda van der Wulp and Bart den Hartigh requested Judge Rick Smid to sentence main suspects A.O.W.J. (35) and C.A.R. (30) to life in prison.

No suspects present at Vesuvius trial Sint Maarten

BELAIR   -Security was at a maximum Monday morning at Belair Community Centre. Despite the fact that none of the seven suspects wished to attend the hearing, the centre was well guarded by a host of police officers, including three sharpshooters on the roof. Crush barriers cordoned off the premises, virtually closing down business at the adjacent fitness club.
