Carlos Monk new suspect in Wiels case

WILLEMSTAD — Carlos Monk, the former minister of Administration, Planning and Service and of Education for Pueblo Soberano, is meanwhile also considered a suspect in the murder case of Helmin Wiels.

Public Prosecutor spokesperson Guillano Schoop confirmed this today. The spokesperson was unable to elaborate on the accusations. “I can confirm that Mr. Monk is considered a suspect in the Wiels case, but the Public Prosecutor will not elaborate on the accusations.” It’s still unclear exactly what the Reforma-supporter is suspected of.

In a press report Monk spoke of the Magnus investigation, or the investigation into the performing perpetrators. “Through the RST (Criminal Investigation Team (editorial office) – the Gestapo in The Hague – the Public Prosecutor informed me by telephone on July 11th that I’m considered a suspect in the Magnus case.” He was invited for a talk yesterday by the RST, he wrote in the press report.

Monk complains about a political persecution, which according to him is typical of a revolutionary independence process and the building up of a new country. “I feel honored to be one of the rebels and all those considered a threat by the colonial fascistic state for their small colonial capital interest.”

The former minister describes the Public Prosecutor’s actions as a million-guilder media show. “After fifteen months they’ve spent 10 million guilders from the people on a show, while they were unable to arrest ‘Bolle’ Martinez and lost their most important witness ‘Pretu’ Florentina due to a deliberate mistake. After having spied on and wire-tapped everyone on Curaçao, I’m now considered a suspect in the Magnus/Magnificus case.”

In the press report and on the radio this morning Monk urged the authorities to put him behind bars if he is suspected of something. “RST, arrest me, I’m here at Radio MAS.”

He finds the telephone call from the RST with the message that he’s considered a suspect ‘unusual, illogical and degenerate’. In his opinion the Public Prosecutor needn’t reckon with him because he’s not part of ‘the elite’ or of the ‘Creole oligarchy’, and never belonged to ‘the group that sold or is selling our people to the Netherlands’. “My name is not Tromp, Prins or Asjes, and I’m not backed by The Hague. I’m simply not involved with anything. I’m not the last person to have spoken with Wiels; I had not agreed to meet with him at Marie Pampoen;  I’m not the one who stopped his personal protection; I didn’t confiscate his laptop the day after his murder; Nor did I fly to the United States two days after the murder and attempt to take money from his bank account; I didn’t deposit 900,000 guilders into his account; I never denied that the 300,000 guilders were from me; Nor was I the one who said publicly to know who murdered Wiels and I never threatened him with death in a sms.” The Public Prosecutor is to consider those responsible for the aforementioned as suspects and to arrest and interrogate them, according to Monk.

The Public Prosecutor is also to investigate itself, Monk emphasized. “Didn’t you know anything about the murder? Didn’t you – the Gestapo’s – have any secret talks with him, after which he was shot dead? Is this a coincidence? Who is the suspect, me or you?”

For Monk, the Public Prosecutor’s actions are a confirmation that the battle against colonialism is justified and necessary. The former minister states that once again the people are a witness to the class justice and that we all live in a colonial fascistic state.
