Justice Minister’s home burgled and valuable items stolen

PHILIPSBURG--Justice Minister Dennis Richardson was the victim of a robbery on Tuesday, when his home was burgled in broad daylight and “several valuable items stolen.”

Richardson told Members of Parliament (MPs) during a meeting shortly after the incident had occurred that he had been shaken up by the matter and that his wife and children were home.

Police Spokesperson Ricardo Henson said in a police press release that several police patrols and detectives had been sent to the minister’s home around 12:10pm. It had been reported that an unknown man dressed completely in black clothing with a hood over his head and a mask covering his face, forced his way into the home of the minister. The suspect searched the home and took several valuable items.

On the scene the investigating officers noticed that the suspect had gotten access to the home via a window. Henson said “an intense search” of the property was conducted. However, the suspect had already fled the scene.

The detectives and Forensic Department were on the scene gathering evidence and speaking to potential witnesses. The investigation into this case is ongoing, Henson said.
