Two more arrested in Octopus investigation

PHILIPSBURG--The tentacles of the "Octopus" investigation have grabbed two more suspects bring the total to five. That number includes independent Member of Parliament (MP)Silvio Matser who was arrested on Wednesday morning.

Two more arrests were made by the justice officials on Thursday following the questioning of three people. The third person was not detained.
Spokesman for the Attorney-General Norman Serphos told The Daily Herald that he could only confirm the two additional arrests, but could not reveal any further details, including the arrestees’ initials.

It is customary for initials of suspects to be made public. However in this case,  justice officials appear to be keeping that information confidential. The reason for this is believed to be the magnitude of the case and the possibility of more arrests.

The biggest nab by Octopus so far is Matser. He was arrested on Wednesday morning along with two other men on the suspections of election fraud (vote buying). Matser is scheduled to appear before the judge of instruction today for an extension of his detention.
