Former owner trust office St. Maarten arrested in corruption investigation

PHILIPSBURG - Corinne de T, the54-year-old Aruba-born owner of a former trust office in St Maarten, was arrested in Philipsburg on Sunday, December 10, in an ongoing investigation into corruption with building projects in the country.
 
She is suspected of co-perpetrating money-laundering, not reporting unusual transactions, conducting a trust office without a licence and destroying evidence, the Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release on Sunday.
 
The investigation is being handled by the Anti-Corruption Taskforce TBO and the National Detective Agency (Landsrecherche St. Maarten).
 
Aanhouding op Sint Maarten
 
In een lopend onderzoek naar corruptie met bouwprojecten op Sint Maartens is vandaag (zondag, 10 december 2017, in Philipsburg Corinne de T. (54 jaar, Aruba), de eigenaresse van een voormalig trustkantoor op Sint Maarten, aangehouden.
 
Zij wordt verdacht van medeplegen van witwassen, niet melden van ongebruikelijke transacties, het voeren van een trustkantoor zonder vergunning en het vernietigen van bewijs.
 
Het betreft een strafrechterlijk onderzoek van het team Bestrijding Ondermijning (TBO) en Landsrecherche Sint Maarten.
