Investigation with luminol in Shut-case

Experts of the Dutch Forensic Institute (NFI) and members of the Technical Investigation Service started with an investigation on the so-called Shut-case in a home at the Kaya Frater Fidelius in Jan Doret.  The investigation includes among others luminol, a substance that can reveal trails of blood.

Luminol is a chemical substance that is used during forensic investigation for finding trails of blood.  Luminol lightens up when it comes in contact with blood namely (chemo-luminescent).  This costly investigation is rare for the island.  It was used in 2003 in the investigation into the 2001 disappearance of the Dominican Natalia Hart-Canela and her at that time 11-year old daughter Elisabeth.  It was also experts of the NFI that came to ransack their home in Rooi Santu at that time.  That investigation lasted two weeks and didn’t reveal anything.

The home in Jan Doret is being combed out in connection with the so-called abduction- and possibly manslaughter case of three Colombians at Shut in August of last year.  One of the three suspects in this case is Michelangelo Faneyte, who stayed in this house last year.
The abduction of the three Colombians took place in the night of August 9 to 10 last year and the motive was possibly a rip-deal of drugs.  According to Justice, the three were kept and maltreated in that house for eight long hours, after which they were put in the trunks of two cars that were dumped into the sea.  The police dredged the cars up after a few days.  Two of the Colombians managed to get out and the third one is still missing.  One of the two that got out went to the hospital later to have his injuries treated.

The case comes up for hearing Wednesday July 30.  It was already postponed a few times.  Justice was waiting for the results of the NFI, which most of the time take several months.  Michelangelo Faneyte is a nephew of Kòrá Faneyte, the owner of the house, who was in jail when this happened.  He has meanwhile served his time.  Apart from Michelangelo, also two brothers were arrested in this Shut-case.  Their case still has to come up for hearing.
