Willy Maal starts new proceeding on Oostpunt

After eight  unsuccessful years of promises from numerous commissioners and several negotiation committees, owner of Oostpunt Willy Maal starts again with a lawsuit about the land. While from the political corner it’s said that the current committee is closer to a solution, Maal has no longer confidence in it. “They still cannot take a clear stand.”

The committee is considering a solution for the dragging matter. “There is a solution supposedly, but they have postponed a presentation to the island government twice already. The third time was planned for a month ago. I don’t know whether it took place or not. I haven’t heard anything”, continues Maal, who is considering a new lawsuit. “What else do you expect after eight years of negotiations?”

Maal seems to have a case considering the earlier decision of the government and the hesitated position of successive committees and island governments regarding the developments of Oostpunt and with that the solution of the conflict.

Developers have definitely shown interest in starting a project on Oostpunt. “But yet, everybody pulls off. I won’t make a fool of myself again by inviting interested parties. The government itself has brought in a Spanish group last year; this group also pulled out. Even Apna is not interested. Drov will trash everything anyway.
In the mid nineties, when the EOP was put into operation, a revision was planned for every five years. “But we are still waiting for the first update.”
