OM awaits decision on Arendt's complaint

As yet the Public Prosecutor (OM) will not comment as regards content on the request of Frida Arendt to the Communal Court of Justice to prosecute her former employer Abdul Nasser el Hakim for tax evasion, forgery and fraud.

The field officer of Justice, Gilbert Joubert, stated this in a press report. As the Amigoe reported yesterday, Arendt had worked as pharmacist from 2003 up to 2005 with Botica Mahuma, owned by Minister el Hakim. She recently filed a complaint against the OM with the Court of Justice for not prosecuting El Hakim. Several years ago, Arendt lodged a complaint against El Hakim with the Public Prosecutor for – in her opinion – various penal acts. In the press report, the field officer of Justice acknowledges that Frida Arendt had filed a report against her former employer N.E.H. in 2008. Considering the documents which the OM received from the informant at the time, the OM ruled that in this case it regarded a matter pertaining to civil law. Therefore, the OM had not started a criminal investigation and informed Arendt accordingly, said Joubert.

In 2009 and 2011, Arendt filed reports again. Also these reports were no reason for the OM to start a criminal investigation, the field officer wrote.

The OM learned from reports from the local media that Arendt, making use of the particulars in article 15 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, submitted a request to the Communal Court of Justice, in which she requests to order the OM to institute criminal proceedings. While awaiting the decision on this request, the OM cannot elaborate on this case as regards contents, said Joubert.
