OM waits before responding

WILLEMSTAD - The Public Prosecutor (OM) may possibly respond this week to a press report from the Government of Curaçao dated 7 March, which states that the OM had already ‘cleared’ the Premier in December with regard to MOT-reports.

Attorney General Dick Piar and field officer of Justice Gilbert Joubert were in The Netherlands last week and had not wished to respond to the press report just yet.The press report from the government of March 7th states: “The Public Prosecutor investigated the reports together with the MOT and concluded in December 2010 these reports gave no reason for a criminal investigation. The Government emphasized there is no fact or data that wasn’t investigated in connection with Premier Schotte, and disapproves that one deliberately chooses to repeat flagrant lies.” That same press report was accompanied by a copy of the letter from the OM of October 29th 2010. The letter states: “As agreed with you, Mr. Joubert agreed with the head of MOT, K. Dambruck, as regards abovementioned subject (MOT-reports, editorial office).

Considering the information currently available to the OM, there are – as yet – no reasons to conduct a criminal investigation against Dr. G. Schotte.” The letter was signed by Piar. Considering the formulation of the letter from the OM, there are doubts whether the OM had ever received the MOT-reports. Various sources within the judicial chain indicate that based on well-informed sources, the OM had not received and investigated the MOT-reports. As yet, neither the OM nor the Attorney General is commenting on this.

The press report from the government was issued after documents regarding MOT-reports from Schotte had been brought to public notice. It regards reports on cash deposits and checks in 2008 and 2009; deposits in addition to his salary as Island Council member. As sideline, Schotte mentioned he is among others entrepreneur and ‘personal consultant.

From the investigation it appeared that also in 2010 large amounts were frequently deposited and withdrawn from the Premier’s accounts. The situation on the MOT-reports regarding 2010, is unknown.
