Only two respond to request for input on new laws

PHILIPSBURG - Only two contractors have responded to last week’s request by the Secretary General of Parliament Jozef D. Semeleer for them to contact the parliamentary secretariat as soon as possible to set up a hearing regarding the Property Law and Contracting of Work draft ordinance.

The draft ordinance on Property Law and Contracting of Work was submitted to the Parliament of St. Maarten by the Minister of Justice and published on www.sxmparliament.org. Contractors have until Friday to inform the secretariat of their interests in the hearing during a public session of the Central Committee of Parliament.

Members of Parliament want to hear the opinions and recommendations from general contractors in the business community as to the effects and consequences before handling this draft ordinance in a Public Meeting of Parliament. Representatives of contractors will be able to make a brief presentation on the draft ordinance on Contracting of Work. They will have to look specifically at how it is relevant to their business interests and the possible consequences for them as contractors and for the community in general.
