No Coup On Curacao

WILLEMSTAD – According to different reports in the region, there is a coup on the island of Curacao. Reliable sources in Curacao itself have stated that  there is no coup in Curacao. The majority in Parliament has chosen a new Government which was sworn in today by the Acting Governor of Curacao.

 
Since 3 August  (former) Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte has resigned, after his Government lost the majority in Parliament, and as it is customary, the Governor has taken his resignation into consideration, which is very normal in the Dutch Kingdom. rime Minister Schotte has also dissolved Parliament and called elections on 19 October  2012.
 
After Schotte’s resignation, the majority in parliament consisting of the political parties PAR, PNP, FOL and the two independent members Eugene Cleopa (former MAN) and Dean Rozier (former MFK) argued that Schotte is not only handling current affairs but is starting new projects and is misusing public funds for political purposes, therefore they’ve requested the Governor to form an interim government to handle ongoing affairs and to prepare for the upcoming elections.
 
After careful consultation with various experts in constitutional affairs, the Governor decided to appoint mr. Eduard “Dito” Mendes de Gouveia as the formateur to form an interim government.
 
On 29 September the Acting Governor has sworn in the new interim government at the Governor’s palace. So reports about a coup in Curacao are not based on the truth. It’s just a democratic process which was started by the majority in parliament.

Samenwerking UNA met twee Cubaanse universiteiten

WILLEMSTAD - De Universiteit van de Nederlandse Antillen (UNA) heeft recentelijk een samenwerkings-overeenkomst gesloten met twee universiteiten op Cuba, te weten Universidad de La Habana, een van de drie grootste universiteiten van Cuba, en Instituto Superior Politécnico Jose Antonio Echeverría (CUJAE), de grootste technische universiteit van Cuba.

WILLEMSTAD – Het Openbaar Ministerie Curaçao start deze week met de informatiecampagne „Betaal je boete‟. Het publiek zal middels folders op de hoogte worden gesteld hoe om te gaan met een verkeersboete.
