Convicted killer Otto found dead

ANGUILLA--Police report that Andy Otto was on a fishing trip when he jumped off the boat in the Windward Point area. This was reported to police by a young man, who was also in the boat, on Sunday 21 October.

The man reported that he did not see Otto submerge. The police conducted a search the following morning and at about 07.10 hours on Monday, October 22, the lifeless body of Andy Otto was found near the shore at Windward Point. An inquest has been ordered by the coroner.

Otto was convicted of murdering two tourists in 1988 and served his life sentence in the United Kingdom and in Anguilla. He escaped from prison in December 2004, was recaptured in St Maarten, sent to Guadeloupe and subsequently extradited to Anguilla. He was released from prison in January 2011 after serving 21 years in jail.

Police are also investigating an attempted robbery at Syd and Pete's Supermarket in George Hill. It was reported that when the supermarket was about to close, the security guard on duty opened the door to allow the last customer to leave, when he saw two masked men armed with guns approaching the door. He quickly secured the door preventing them from entering and they ran off in the nearby bushes. Police are investigating the incident.
