Hurricane Sandy disrupts, but can't stop many NYC legal professionals

NEW YORK - Much of the legal industry on the East Coast boarded up and battened down Monday as Hurricane Sandy roared along, with just a few offices determined to muscle through the storm while people instead worked from home or other locations if they could manage it in the face of storm surges and evacuation orders.

 
Courts, government offices, law firms and schools along the Eastern seaboard and as far west as Pittsburgh took heed of the danger, amid grounded flights, suspended transit systems and barricaded bridges. Many workplaces planned to remain closed an additional day.
 
This morning law firms and the courts scrambled to keep employees safe and to maintain some semblance of normal operations as waters began to lap over Manhattan sea walls as fears grew of much worse to come.
 
Courts and some firms closed, but many lawyers came to work and others worked remotely. But howling winds were a reminder that it was uncertain how long power would be available.

BES ISLANDS - Minister Edith Schippers (VWS) gaat akkoord met een alternatief voorstel vanuit Caribisch Nederland om de noodzakelijke besparingen op de zorgkosten te halen.
