AAV will take legal action against Isla refinery

WILLEMSTAD — Contractors association AAV has lost its patience with the Isla, said AVV-director Mike Willem. The association will take legal action against the Isla and has obtained legal advice in the meantime on how to tackle this.

The AVV decided this after its letter to Isla late last week, demanding clarity on payments owed by the local refinery.According to the AVV, these payments stem from the cao (collective labor agreement) which the association agreed on in May 2012 with the SGTK, the union for personnel on the Isla-premises. It regards a lump-sum payment of 1600 guilders for every employee falling under the cao. The AAV and the Isla agreed that the refinery would make these payments. However, the union and AAV have been waiting for clarity from the Isla since last year.

“We’ve waited long enough. Our patience has been put to the test since last year. We demand clarity from the Isla. We can’t nor want to wait any longer. This morning we decided to ask our lawyer for advice on further legal steps. We will take legal action”, said AAV-director Willem.

SGTK’s patience ran out last week and the workers went on strike. Having consulted with involved parties SGTK requested their members to resume work after the Isla promised to arrange payment within several days. In connection with possible legal steps from SGTK against the AAV, the contractors’ association sent a letter to the Isla late last week, requesting clarity. It regards among other things the status of the lump-sum payment. In this letter the Isla is requested to provide this clarity as soon as possible. However, after having waited two days for this clarity, the AAV-director said this morning he’s waited long enough.
