Successful first Aruban edition Day of the Supervisory Board

ORANJESTAD- VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne and The Galan Group have presented the first Aruban “Dag van het Commissariaat” on Thursday 22 January.

With 70 people who registered, it was a successful launch of the seminar, which is to return annually.

Both government organizations and the business community were represented, for instance by FCCA, the Social Insurance Bank Aruba, Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital, and several commercial banks and accounting firms. Four speakers gave presentations to those present.

On behalf of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne, Frank Kunneman described corporate governance in the Dutch Caribbean, and Kimberley de l’Isle discussed the legal position of the supervisor. Robbert Kroon (The Galan Group N.V.) explained why good supervision is no longer just optional. Jossy Laclé (former director of WEB Aruba N.V.) explained the role of the supervisory director in Aruba. Steffen Hagen, senior lawyer with VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne and manager of the Aruban office of the firm, moderated the seminar.

After the presentations, the seminar was concluded with a question and answer round and discussion. Among other issues, the application of good supervision in practice was discussed here. For instance, questions were asked about statutory liability of supervisors, and about how to deal with a management board that acts in conflict with advice of the Supervisory Board.

The presentations and a transcript of the question and answer round have been published on the website of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne: www.ekvandoorne.com. The interest in the seminar and the reactions of those present called for follow-up, which VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne will offer by means of a follow-up session concerning remuneration for supervisors.
