Clustered handling of Kingdom Laws

THE HAGUE--The Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament adopted on Tuesday a motion of Members of the Aruba Parliament that calls for a central, clustered handling of Kingdom Laws to enable other Parliaments of the Kingdom to be present.

The motion, submitted by representatives of the AVP, MEP and PDR parties in the Aruba Parliament, sought to have the handling of the Kingdom Laws (Rijkswetten) take place during the yearly Inter-Parliamentary Kingdom Consultations IPKO or another specific coherent period.

In the motion it is stated that a central, clustered handling would enable representatives of the Parliaments of Aruba, Curaçao and St. Maarten to contribute to the process of Kingdom Laws, laws that affect the three overseas countries. The Kingdom Sanctions Law, which will be handled shortly in the Second Chamber, is an example of such a law.

The motion was submitted during last week's debate on the Convention of the Council of Europe to combat violence against women and domestic violence in general, also referred to as the Convention of Istanbul.

During that debate, the Aruban Parliamentarians also submitted two motions directly relating to violence against women and domestic violence. One motion called for the Kingdom Government to establish a cooperation protocol on this issue during the June 16 Kingdom Conference. The second motion requested that the Kingdom Government share training material in this area with the other cou
ntries in the Kingdom.

Both motions were adopted by the Second Chamber on Tuesday.
