Law amendments soon to be passed in Parliament Siint Maarten

PHILIPSBURG - Legislation to address the fixed-term employment contract, time allotment for pregnancy and childbirth, equal treatment of employees and transfer of business will soon be before Parliament. The amendments will have consequences for the country's Civil Code and Labour Laws.
 
Independent Member of Parliament Cornelius De Weever stated the legislature "will improve the lives of our people."
 
This piece of legislation is the fixed-term employment contract (article 614a); pregnancy and childbirth (article 629a); equal treatment (article 646 to 653) and transfer of undertaking (articles 662 to 666).
 
The Advisory Council is said to have finalized its review of the draft amendments and these are now back with the Labour Policy Department of the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour for its follow up report.
 
The dossier will then go to the Council of Ministers for its approval and then on to Parliament for debate and tabling for approval.
