PAR: “PAIS must make choice in case Minister Plenipotentiary Marvelyne Wiels'

WILLEMSTAD – Opposition party PAR urges coalition party PAIS to quickly solve the dilemma, which is dividing the coalition, with respect to the position of the Minister Plenipotentiary, Marvelyne Wiels of the ruling party Pueblo Soberano.

The opposition party made this statement following a public meeting on the position of the Minister. This meeting was requested by the coalition partner PAIS and this is why the PAR finds it incomprehensible why the party has not done anything yet about the situation.

“During the meeting, the Minister of Policy Planning and Government Services, Etienne van der Horst spoke about integrity, and his own party is supporting someone who goes against all principles of integrity,” says the PAR representatives in parliament.

“We can draw no other conclusion, then that PAIS is complicit in maintaining someone who, according to various reports, lacks integrity in a public position and is not functioning according to the rules of good governance. The members of the PAIS party are giving content to the former Ombudsman’s predictions when she said in parliament that she does not expect the actors to make the right decisions, but will be more concerned about maintaining the coalition,” says the PAR MP, Armin Konket.

According to Konket it was Minister van der Horst who indicated during the meeting that he prefers not to maintain contacts with the Curaçao House and “that can be only interpreted as that there is something fishy going at the Curaçao representation in The Hague,” says Konket.

According to PAR, PAIS must choose between principles or coalition privileges.
