Parliament Curacao adopts three new laws

WILLEMSTAD – The government can look back with satisfaction at the adoption of three laws that were debated recently in parliament. Two of these ordinances received the full support of the Members of Parliament.

The first draft ordinance is about an amendment to the Ordinance on the Tax Appeals and the National Ordinance on Administrative Law. This law means that the persons who, after appeal proceedings against the tax, are still dissatisfied can go to the court of appeal. The opposition motivated that the law is in favor of the population. “We do not always vote against as opposition,” said an opposition MP.

The draft Ordinance Financial Management also received the approval of all the MPs. The leader of the opposition party MFK, Gerrit Schotte indicated though that he will keep a close eye on this new bill. He especially has trouble with the fact that ministers are now allowed to freely decide about expenses up to to 25,000 guilders.

The draft Ordinance first supplemental budget 2015 received heavy criticism from the opposition. Five MPs of MFK and MAN voted against it. 11 MPs voted for the bill. The main reason to vote against this bill was, according to the opposition, that the government has been lying all these years to the population that the economy is improving, while this is not the case.
