UoC launches prestigious PhD Program

WILLEMSTAD - The University of Curaçao Dr. Moises da Costa Gomez (UoC) is launching a prestigious PhD Program, which starts in September 2017.

The foundation year of this program is also offered as a refreshment or advancement opportunity for local professionals, and for those who are still in doubt about pursuing a PhD degree.

Information sessions about the PhD Program will give you an opportunity to obtain more in-depth information about the program, the benefits, the regional partners and the procedures.

“UoC has been preparing this for quite some time. The result is a solid program that is relevant not just for the individual students, but also for the society of Curaçao as a whole,” UoC Rector Magnificus Dr. Francis de Lanoy explains. “Our PhD Program is about two things: capacity building and knowledge building. We will deliver highly qualified researchers with the capacity to participate in a wide array of cutting-edge research. This is a big step towards our national university and for our country. We are laying the
foundation for high-impact evaluations and evidence-based innovations, executed by researchers that know Curaçao and the Caribbean like no other.”

The UoC will start with a PhD Program in social, economics, education and technological sciences. This PhD Program is the result of collaboration with universities in the region, namely: the University of the West Indies, the University of Florida and the University of Central Florida. Together with these partners, the PhD School will offer a blended learning program, facilitating an innovative learning experience with optimal flexibility.

“By offering the foundation year also as a certificate program, UoC offers a unique opportunity for academics working in all sorts of functions that require a state-of the-art research knowledge and skills base,” Dr. De Lanoy continues. “For some, it will be professionalization only. For others, it will be an opportunity to find out throughout the year if a full PhD is something they really want to pursue.”

The information sessions take place on Tuesday 15 August and on Thursday 24 August 2017, both 17.00-18.30 hour at UoC. For registration for one of these sessions please check our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/gradschooluoc) or send us a mail at
