Curacao to host "LACNIC 2010 annual conference" in May

For the first time in history Curacao will be the hosting country for the "LACNIC 2010 annual conference", an international conference of Internet and Telecommunicashon, which will be taking place in May 2010 at the World Trade Center.

This was announced during a recent press conference by the Minister of telecommunication, Mr. ir. Maurice Adriaens. In 2009 the conference was held in Panama City, and recently it was decided to hold this important international conference to Curacao. The conferee will take place on from May 17th through May 21st 2010. The conference is a continuation of the recent workshops and a masterplan of ICT developed in 2009. The organizers of this conference are Bureau Telecommunicaite and Post and the Caribbean Internet Exchange (CAR-IX).

Internet
LACNIC stands for "Latin America and Caribbean Internet Registry" and plays a crucial role in the development of internet technology management . A example of this is that LACNIC is responsible or the management and distribution of all Latin America and Caribbean IP addresses.

Participants
Approximate 350 international experts on topic of internet and telecommunication from around the world are expected to participate in this conference. Some of these companies are representatives from internet and telecommunication companies, governmental entities, regulators, internet exchange organizations, content distributors and representatives from universities who do research on the development of the internet. This conference presents a good opportunity for the international community, the local community and the regional internet community to be introduced to each other and establish a communication channel for the future.

ICT Sector
The government and the private sector of Curacao are already working together on the development of the Information Communication technology sector. ICT has proven instrumental for enabling and empowering individuals with unprecedented access to information. In order to continue the positive growth of Curacao in the region, it is necessary to evolve the whole community with the development of ICT.
