VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne appoints Kamla Besançon as partner

Dutch Caribbean law firm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne appointed corporate lawyer Kamla Besançon as partner per 1 September 2013. Her appointment reflects the strategy of the firm, which shows consistent growth during recent years.

Since 2011, with the opening of the St. Maarten branch, VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne is fully represented in the entire Dutch Caribbean. Kamla heads the St. Maarten branch.

Kamla joined VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne in 2012 as a senior associate, after obtaining broad experience in the Dutch Caribbean, the Netherlands and the United States. At VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne, she developed a broad corporate practice, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate governance, and shareholder and board room advice. She leads the legal team in St. Maarten, which represents clients in a wide range of corporate and commercial matters, ranging from transactional and general corporate law, (re)structuring, commercial contracts, finance and employment law.

Kamla’s roots lie in the Caribbean, she studied law at Leiden University (the Netherlands) and Columbia University (New York), and has been admitted to the Amsterdam, New York and local bars. Kamla’s client base consists mainly of larger corporates, including local utility companies, banks, insurance companies, hotels, international investors and private equity funds. As a young partner, she will further develop her practice, and focus on solidifying Van Eps Kunneman VanDoorne’s position as market leader in the field of corporate transactions.
