Two new lawyers at VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne

With the admittance to the bar of junior associate Vincent Abbing and the employment of associate Godelieve Wesselingh, VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne has expanded with both a starting and an experienced attorney.
 
Vincent Abbing was sworn in by the Common Court of Justice of Curaçao, Aruba, and St. Maarten and of Bonaire, Statia, and Saba on Tuesday 9 September 2014.
 
Godelieve Wesselingh has approximately six years of experience with one of the major international firms in the Netherlands and now makes the move to the Dutch Caribbean. She will be sworn in later.
 
Godelieve gained experience in the Netherlands in corporate and real estate law. Her existing acquaintance with some colleagues at VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne was one of the reasons why her move to the Caribbean was a logical next step to her. The Curaçao office of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne will be her home base, but she will working for the St. Maarten office for three months first.
 
 
Godelieve: “In the Netherlands you don’t realize every day that in the overseas territories the same language is spoken, residents have the same passport, and the legal system is based on the same principles. I look forward to getting to know the uniqueness of the islands and therefore enjoy working both in St. Maarten and Curaçao in the upcoming months.”
 
 
Vincent studied international law and spent a semester in Switzerland as a student, where he attended the Université de Fribourg. Consequently, the international aspect of working as a lawyer in the Caribbean was what appealed to him: “Beside local clients, I work with clients from Canada one day and from Singapore the next. The many international relations are typical for the Caribbean. The fact that our jurisdictions have so much to offer to international parties, makes the job exciting and diverse.”
 
Godelieve and Vincent will both join the Corporate & Banking section of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne.

Twee nieuwe advocaten VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne 
 
Met de beëdiging van advocaat-stagiair Vincent Abbing en de indiensttreding van advocaat-medewerker Godelieve Wesselingh, heeft VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne er zowel een startende als een ervaren kracht bij.
 
Vincent Abbing werd dinsdag 9 september beëdigd te Curaçao door het Gemeenschappelijke Hof van Curaçao, Aruba en Sint Maarten en van Bonaire, Sint Eustatius en Saba. Godelieve Wesselingh heeft ongeveer zes jaar ervaring bij een van de grote, internationale kantoren in Nederland en maakt nu de overstap naar de Nederlandse Cariben. Zij wordt later beëdigd. 
 
Godelieve deed in Nederland ervaring op in het ondernemings- en vastgoedrecht. Onder meer doordat ze al collega’s van VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne kende, was dit voor haar een logische volgende stap. De Curaçaose vestiging van VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne wordt haar thuisbasis, maar ze zal eerst drie maanden voor het kantoor werken vanuit St. Maarten. Godelieve: “In Nederland sta je niet elke dag stil bij de overzeese gebiedsdelen waar dezelfde taal wordt gesproken, waar inwoners hetzelfde paspoort hebben en waar het rechtssysteem op dezelfde basis is gestoeld. Ik zie er naar uit om de eigenheid van de eilanden te leren kennen, en vind het daarom ook leuk dat ik binnen korte tijd zowel op St. Maarten als op Curaçao werkzaam zal zijn.”
 
Vincent studeerde internationaal recht en bracht tijdens zijn studie een semester door in Zwitserland, waar hij studeerde aan de Université de Fribourg. Het internationale aspect van het werken als advocaat in de Cariben is dan ook wat hem trok: “Naast lokale cliënten, werk ik de ene dag met cliënten uit Canada en de dag erna uit Singapore. De vele internationale verhoudingen zijn typisch voor de Cariben. Dat onze jurisdicties zoveel te 
bieden hebben voor internationale partijen, maakt het werk enerverend en afwisselend.”
 
Godelieve en Vincent starten beiden in de sectie Corporate & Banking van VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne.
