Curacao Legal Portal annually composes a ranking of Sint Maarten based law firms based on the number of lawyers employed on Sint Maarten (in this case on 30 April 2011).

Remarkable is that most of the firms remain steady in terms of number of lawyers and that.two firms of the Top 10 decrease in size (their Sint Maarten offices). Only one firm is growing in number of lawyers.

The largest law firm on (the Dutch side of) Sint Maarten is still BZSE, with a large knowledge base with 9 lawyers (and one tax lawyer, not included in the list). Number two, Gibson & Associates grew from 6 to 7 attorneys. Number 3, HBN Law, which employs more than 25 lawyers in total, has been on the island for many years, presently with 6 attorneys. The office in St. Maarten also serves the islands of Saba and St. Eustatius.

New in this Top 10 is law firm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne. Early 2011, the largest Dutch Caribbean firm, VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne (30 lawyers), silently landed on St. Maarten. With just one lawyer they are still in stealth mode for now, but rumor goes that they have big plans on the island.

At the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao and St. Maarten and Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba approximately 350 lawyers are officially registered. Of these lawyers, about 60 are working at law firms on Sint Maarten (ca. 20 %). These 60 lawyers are working at circa 25 law firms.
