DEN HAAG — De aanwijzing voor Curaçao is vandaag officieel beëindigd, twintig maanden na de beslissing van de Rijksministerraad (RMR) dat deze vorm van hoger toezicht noodzakelijk was. Op basis van informatie die het College financieel toezicht (Cft) verstrekte, constateerde de RMR vandaag dat Curaçao aan alle onderdelen voldoet, waardoor de aanwijzing is komen te vervallen.

Section 2:14 subsection 1 of the Curaçao Civil Code (‘CCC’) provides that every director of a legal entity (NV, BV, foundation or association) is obliged towards the legal entity to perform the duties properly within the sphere of his activities. If there is only one director, the sphere of his activities covers all the duties.

PHILIPSBURG--The Court of First Instance sentenced a 33-year-old woman Wednesday to six months suspended, on two years' probation for illegal abortion. The woman was tried in absentia.

Het Gerecht Eerste Aanleg (GEA) heeft op 9 december 2013 het Openbaar Ministerie (OM) niet ontvankelijk verklaard in de vervolging van enkele corruptiefeiten tegen de heren Ramoncito Booi en Burney ElHage. Tegen die beslissing heeft het OM hoger beroep ingesteld, dat wordt op vrijdag 7 maart om 9 uur door het Hof behandeld.

PHILIPSBURG- During the nightime three prisoners escaped from Point Blanche Prison. The prisoners are L.T.A (26 years 

old), O.S.N. (23 years old) and N.F. (29 years old). After a short and thorough manhunt by KPSM police force, three were found in Philipsburg. With the arrest shots were fired by the police. One prisoner (N.F), was hit and died shortly after.

PHILIPSBURG--The 37 organic laws stemming from the Constitution, the explanatory memorandum to the Constitution and a glossary have been translated into British English. All translated legislations are now available on government's website –www.sintmaartengov.org – along with Dutch version.

PHILIPSBURG--The Joint Court of Justice heard the appeal of Vesuvius-case accomplice Andrew Selvin Davis (32) on Thursday. The Court of First Instance sentenced Davis to six years for the preparation of murder, firearm possession and for membership in a criminal organisation, on November 15, 2012.

WILLEMSTAD – Nadat advocaat Saran Inderson is gestopt met de verdediging van Elvis Kuwas, alias ‘Monster’, heeft de verdachte advocaat Olga Saleh-Kostrzewski in de arm genomen. Dat bevestigt Saleh-Kostrzewski tegenover het Antilliaans Dagblad.

WILLEMSTAD — De verdachte Dangelo ‘Panchèk’ D. (26) moet de inhoudelijke behandeling van de moordzaak Wiels in hechtenis afwachten. Er zijn nog steeds ernstige bezwaren, waardoor zijn verzoek om (voorlopig) vrijgelaten te worden vanochtend door de rechter is afgewezen.

PHILIPSBURG - Foundation for Secondary Education in the Windward Islands SVOBE (Stichting Voortgezet Onderwijs van de Bovenwindse Eilanden) , which provides secondary education to approximately 1,200 students at Milton Peters College and Sundial School, sounded the alarm Tuesday afternoon. SVOBE is in grave financial difficulties and is facing bankruptcy if the Ministry of Education does not provide NAf. 4.5 million in funding, it stated.

PHILIPSBURG - Vandaag, donderdag 20 februari 2014, vanaf ongeveer 6.00 uur, zijn vijf verdachten aangehouden op verdenking van de (internationale) handel in verdovende middelen. Tevens vonden huiszoekingen plaats in vijf woningen en een bedrijf in Sint Maarten.

WILLEMSTAD - Het Gemeenschappelijk Hof van Justitie van  Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten en van Bonaire, Saint Eustatius en Saba heeft op dinsdag 18 februari 2014 Debbie Lunenburg tot advocaat beëdigd. Debbie's vader is speciaal uit Nederland overgekomen om de beëdiging bij te wonen.

The civil court system in the Dutch Caribbean (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba) consists of three tiers; first instance cases are brought before the Court of First Instance. Appeal cases are brought before the Joint Court of Appeal. 

WILLEMSTAD – De overheid heeft de door Curaçao Exchange NV en CTEX geclaimde belastingen nog niet terugbetaald. In oktober zegde minister van Economische Ontwikkeling Stanley Palm toe met terugwerkende kracht 2,9 miljoen gulden terug te betalen, meldt Radio Hoyer 2.

WILLEMSTAD - Vandaag, woensdag 19 februari 2014, heeft het Openbaar Ministerie (OM Curaçao) cassatie ingesteld de beschikkingen dd 6 februari 2014 in het uitleveringsverzoek van de Verenigde Staten betreffende de mannen K., R. en F.

PHILIPSBURG--Judge Coen Luijks decided Monday to postpone the hearing in the so-called Masbangu case involving election fraud, until April 14.

AMSTERDAM- Rechtbank Amsterdam oordeelt dat Ernst & Young niet actief had onderzocht of een vennootschap na de door hen geadviseerde herstructurering daadwerkelijk onder de deelnemingsvrijstelling viel. Hierdoor was het advieskantoor tekort geschoten in de advisering en schadeplichtig.
