Changes in Curacao as of 1 January 2012

The most important amendment in the Curacao provision with regard to the conversion of an NV or BV into a foreign legal entity (outbound) is that the requirement of the personal notice of liability by managing directors and shareholders has been removed as from 1 January 2012 onwards, except for the case mentioned below.

Hodge cabinet Curacao officially resigned

WILLEMSTAD--Curaçao Prime Minister Daniel Hodge announced that his government has officially resigned. The transition cabinet of professionals installed per January 1 by the PS/PAIS/PNP/Sulvaran coalition for three to six months now has a caretaker status, so that the process of forming a political government can start as parties had agreed on from the beginning. Indications are that in this phase MAN (two seats) will be asked to join the coalition and broaden its minimal majority of eleven in the 21-seat Parliament.

Oud-premier Miguel Pourier overleden

WILLEMSTAD - De oud-premier van de Nederlandse Antillen, Miguel Pourier, stierf zaterdagnacht op 74-jarige leeftijd. Hij overleed in de nacht van zaterdag op zondag op Curaçao aan een herseninfarct.  Hij was al enige tijd ernstig ziek.

The conversion of or into a foundation

If a foreign legal entity wants to be converted into a Curacao foundation (inbound) the Court in Curacao must grant consent (Section 2:303 subsection 2 of the Civil Code). I was unable to find any explanation of this in the Explanatory Memorandums of Book 2 of the Civil Code of 2003 and 2010.

Senate delays change to Constitution for islands

Police cite a ‘downward trend’ in crime for 2012

PHILIPSBURG--New measures to tackle crime such as the implementation of special police teams, community policing and improvement of response time at the police station have been cited by the police as the reason for a "downward trend" in crime in 2012 compared to 2011 and 2010.

Uitzending Zembla over milieuverontreiniging Isla Curacao
