Public Prosecutor introduces HuRa (summary jurisdiction)

WILLEMSTAD  - Burglaries, shopliftings and brawls are considered minor offences that often pile up because raids, firearm violence, drug smuggling and grievous bodily harm have priority. However, summary jurisdiction will change this.

Minister of Justice of Curacao should step down
 
The Antilliaans Dagblad today published the letter sent by Minister of Justice, Elmer ‘Kadè’ Wilsoe (PS), to Hillary Rodham Clinton and Eric H. Holder on 25 April 2012. From this letter it follows that Wilsoe tried to interfere with the investigation by the Public Prosecutor (OM) into Robbie Dos Santos, Ponsford Overseas and Tula Finance (the ‘Bientu’ investigation).

The importance of sharing information

The internet is an important source for finding legal information.
Governments, institutions and individuals have put legal resources on the World Wide Web. The number of statutes, court decisions and other legal documents available on the internet grows daily.
Internet is an ideal and cost-effective place to find a recent court decision, to track current legislative developments or to find out about any companies activities.

Dutch Caribbean Legal Portal asked mr. Karel Frielink, President of the Curacao Bar Association, to give his view on the importance of sharing legal information.

International and regional Dutch Caribbean law firms

The Dutch Caribbean holds only two law firms that qualify as true regional firms. These firms are VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne and HBN Law, both with their main office in Curaçao and further offices in Aruba, Bonaire and St. Maarten.  These firms are ranked in terms of size (number of lawyers) at respectively no. 1 (VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne) and no. 2 (HBN Law) in the Dutch Caribbean Legal Portal (“DCLP”) 2012 law firm ranking.

Special tax regime for the BES Islands

In Hoger Beroep inzake een geschil over parallelhandel, betreffende afweging van het belang van het ongemoeid laten van identificatiecodes tegen het belang van geïntimeerde bij een vrije parallelhandel met gedecodeerde flessen, heeft het Hof geoordeeld dat het belang van appellant gering is en het vonnis bevestigd waarvan beroep.

Important changes to Curacao corporate law

Wanneer een trustkantoor informatie moet verstrekken aan de belastingdienst in het kader van een onderzoek naar cliënten van dat kantoor, komt aan het trustkantoor zelf geen verschoningsrecht toe, omdat het trustkantoor geen geheimhouder is in de zin van art. 53a AWR.
