Curaçao back on watchlist human trafficking

 During the past year, the government of Curaçao has been unable to prove they made more efforts in tackling human trafficking and slave running compared to 2009. Therefore, the US had placed the country back on the ‘TIER 2 watchlist’.

New Penal Code is being handled

The recent Central Committee meeting of Curaçao's Parliament on the amendment of the Penal Code was closed with the request to draw up a final report and have Minister of Justice Elmer Wilsoe (PS) answer the questions presented in writing. Approval is thus finally in sight.

Kingdom partners sign MOU to tackle human-trafficking

PHILIPSBURG--The four partners of the Dutch Kingdom will continue to work together to tackle the "horrendous crime" of human-trafficking and -exploitation through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed at Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort and Casino at the end of the meeting of the Justice Ministers of the Kingdom, on Monday.

In het eerder aangekondigde Belastingplan 2011 is een zeer ruime nieuwe inkeerregeling opgenomen. Het Belastingplan 2011 is inmiddels aangepast en bevat zelfs een verdere verruiming! De navorderingstermijn voor het opleggen van de aanslagen zal slechts 5 jaar bedragen, dit terwijl de reguliere navorderingstermijn 15 jaar kan bedragen.

Inter-parliamentary Consultation The Hague

THE HAGUE--The four Parliaments in the Kingdom used Tuesday, the first day of their four-day Inter-parliamentary Consultation, to make their marks on cooperation within the Kingdom. It has been my opinion for many years already that government-owned companies should be kept out of the political sphere as much as possible, so that they may benefit from a commercial, businesslike and market-oriented management. In doing so they also run less of a risk of being milked or used as political toys.

THE HAGUE--The decision by the Kingdom Council of Ministers - at the request of Curaçao - to have an independent committee investigate the Central Bank and government cannot replace the one to be ordered by the Supervisory Board of the joint Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten, or vice versa.

Curaçao Parliament votes for an own Central Bank

A motion calling for Curaçao to have its own Central Bank rather than having to share one with St. Maarten was adopted with eleven votes for and none against by Parliament yesterday evening, while a motion of no-confidence against Finance Minister George "Jorge" Jamaloodin (MFK) in connection with the controversy involving Central Bank director Emsley Tromp and members of the Schotte cabinet was rejected by eleven votes to eight.
