WILLEMSTAD - Het begon allemaal door de economische boom op Curaçao begin jaren twintig van de vorige eeuw toen de Shell welvaart naar het eiland bracht door de raffinage van olie uit een politiek instabiel Venezuela. Toen de Tweede Wereldoorlog uitbrak kreeg Curaçao de rol van veilige haven voor Nederlandse multinationals die Curaçao tot hun plaats van vestiging maakten.

Britain targets two Caribbean banks

LONDON, England - Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne is reportedly finalising measures to clamp down on two Caribbean tax havens. Under tough anti-evasion measures being drawn up by the Treasury, banks in the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands will be forced to reveal details about customers suspected of hiding money offshore.

Nieuwe wet legt maximum betaaltermijn op

NETHERLANDS -  In nieuwe wetgeving die sinds 16 maart van dit jaar in Nederland van kracht is, is bepaald dat bedrijven hun betaaltermijn niet meer onbeperkt mogen oprekken. Leveranciers moeten na uiterlijk zestig dagen hun geld ontvangen. Als dat niet gebeurt kunnen zij een wettelijke rente en een boete in rekening brengen.

PdVSA en Rusland sluiten deal over Venezolaanse olie

WILLEMSTAD – De staatsbedrijven Rosneft, uit Rusland, en PdVSA, uit Venezuela, gaan samen een Venezolaans olieveld met een voorraad van naar schatting 40 miljard vaten exploiteren. Het versterkt de alliantie tussen beide landen. Dat meldt Belgisch persbureau IPS.

Good results 2012 for MCB

WILLEMSTAD — The net income of the MCB Group (Maduro & Curiel’s Bank) increased in 2012 with 5.5 million guilders (3 percent) to 178 million guilders. After taxes this amount was 144 million guilders. In 2012 the total assets of the bank exceeded the 6 billion guilders for the first time.
